Helping Out
Author: Jolyon

Jolyon stood in the entrance hall with the students eligible to take the apparition exam. It consisted of a somewhat smaller group than the one enrolled in the lessons, since not everyone had celebrated a seventeenth birthday yet. Jolyon and a few other professors had volunteered to assist with the exams, which included sending students into the Great Hall one-by-one and reversing splinches if any occurred.

Getting the signal to send another student into the Great Hall, Jolyon tapped the nearest one on the shoulder and said, "You're up."

The student swallowed hard out of nervous anticipation and then entered the Great Hall, where the Ministry of Magic examiner waited.

In the moment directly after sending the student in for the exam, Jolyon allowed his mind to wander to the letter he had received at breakfast. It had come from Merrie and had been short and to the point:

Jolyon,

Can we meet tonight? I'll be at the Hog's Head at five.

Yours,
Merrie

Jolyon didn't know what to make of the note. On the one hand, he wondered if Merrie would reveal renewed feelings for him and ask him to drop her sister like a hot potato. There was something different about the way she acted around him ever since she and Lancelot ended their relationship. Jolyon couldn't quite pinpoint what, but he noticed it and kind of liked it. On the other hand, he worried there was something more serious to the meeting, such as the revelation of an illness.

He didn't want it to be the latter, but he had no idea what he would do if it was the former instead. Jolyon cared for Lorrie very much. He didn't want to hurt her feelings by ending things and taking up with her sister again, even though Merrie was the mother of his children.

Well, he supposed he would cross the bridge if and when he got there.

He received another signal to send in the next student. Jolyon turned to the girl, who was bouncing up and down on her heels, and told her to go into the Great Hall for her apparition exam.

What's The Hogwarts Equivalent Of A Big Gulp? (Jasper, Marlow, Liannah)

Jasper drinks the rest of a lemonade he'd gotten right after coming to the Common Commons. Marlow gives him a look that has him asking, "What?"

"We have to leave for the pitch soon and then play a match."

"I'm glad you told me. I didn't know. Who might we be playing?"

Marlow reaches over and lightly slaps Jasper on the arm prompting another, "What?"

"You know what."

"Marlow wouldn't be concerned if you'd had a normal sized drink like everyone else." Liannah hadn't seemed to be paying attention but her words indicate she has.

Jasper eyes the extra extra extra large cup. "Why didn't you stop me?"

"I only got here a minute ago."

Jasper looks to Liannah. "What's your excuse?"

"I'm not on the team or even in your house?"

"Some best friend cousin you are."

One side of Liannah's mouth twists up. "I wasn't paying much attention. Sorry."

Marlow and Liannah have an up and down relationship. Today has been more up. So far at least. She asks with concern, "Is something wrong?"

Liannah shakes her head. "No, not really. I just wish I were taking the licensing test today. Having to wait until August means I might forget everything between now and then."

Jasper's expression is empathetic. "I know what you mean. July isn't as far but it's still a wait."

Liannah gives them a smile then motions to a clock on the nearby wall. "You two should probably go on so you can get changed and do whatever else you need to do."

Marlow gets up with Jasper right behind. He wonders aloud, "Is there a don't need to pee spell I can use until the match ends?"

The thought of such a spell, which may exist for all they know, has them laughing the entire walk to the pitch.

New Home Owner
Author: Fritz Schnackenpfefferhausen
Date:   07-08-15 18:12

Connie Copperpot hands over the keys to the farmhouse Fritz and Coco have decided they like best. It's one that came on the market very recently and seemed very likely to sell just as quickly. Not wishing the waste an opportunity, Fritz made an offer and also made a hefty down payment thanks to the funds Berthold Beatenberg left him. Fritz almost feels a little dirty for using the money, but without it, he wouldn't have been able to afford the property.

The property consists of a large, two-story red-brick house with a gray shingled roof and a lot of windows. Vibrant green vines cover part of the front of the house. The farmhouse sits on a large expanse of open land––perfect for the addition of a barn or whatever sorts of structures Coco might wish to build for her pets. The property is in the small village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Devon.

After leaving the office of the title company, Fritz apparates to his new home. It's empty, of course, but that will all change soon enough. He separates one of his new house keys and puts it on a key ring of its own. The key ring has the image of a teacup poodle on it. The dog doesn't look exactly like Pea, but Fritz thinks it will be a happy reminder of Coco's old dog nonetheless.

When she shows up for their appointed meeting, Fritz invites her inside the house and says, "Welcome to our new home."

Coco's grin is wide. "You really bought it."

"I was afraid to wait," Fritz admits.

Coco, being the only one who knows about Fritz's extra money, doesn't wonder how he managed to do it. Instead, she walks around the empty house and thinks about where some of her furniture might go. Both Fritz and Coco currently still live at home, so they really don't have a lot of things with which to fill the big house. There's no hurry to fill it up, though.

When Coco finally comes back to Fritz she asks, "Have you told your parents yet?"

"No, but I will do that after one last thing."

"What's that?"

Fritz hands over the key ring. Besides Coco's new house key and the teacup poodle, there is a diamond ring around loop.

He gets down one knee and asks, "Coco, will you marry me?"
