Torres' Finals
Author: Calliope Torres
Date:   08-20-15 11:35

Thursday meant that Lev only had two exams, with his final four being tomorrow with a break for lunch between Herbology and F&A. His last two examinations being outside the castle - greenhouses and then wherever his F&A final was to be held...he couldn't remember at this point in time but would ask a classmate tomorrow at lunch.

At the moment he was staring at his last final of the day, DADA, which had begun at quarter past one and would go until quarter of three. A quick glance at the hourglass, signaled that he had about half of that time remaining. He still had about three or four of the written questions and then handling whatever portion of the practical examination that is thrown his way. He is fairly certain that his parents will be well pleased with his marks this term...which means that none of his summer plans will be cancelled due to him being grounded.

Hearing his name called, he quickly rises and heads over to perform for the practical portion of the examination before returning to his seat to complete the remaining portion of the written. He has, thus far used every ouch of allotted time to complete his exams, which allows him to ensure that he has double and triple checked his examination answers and that he hasn't left anything blank.

Callie on the other hand, had no exams tomorrow, but had her final three today. Transfiguration, DADA, and Herbology rounded out her first year at Hogwarts. She was already anxious to get home and see her siblings again and give the younger siblings the small items she'd gotten for them as gifts.

Why was she so uncomfortable in the greenhouse today? Seriously? She was more restless than usual, her foot constantly tapping silently against the floor as she jiggled her quill in between writing answers for the written portion of her examination, while waiting for her name to be called for the practical portion that was to accompany the exam.

Heaving a silent sigh of irritation at her lack of focus at the moment, she shifted ever so slightly and pulled her thick, dark hair back into a ponytail, securing it with an elastic before picking up her quill and once more recounting the proper procedure for harvesting dittany. She shifted slightly in her seat and shifted her parchments slightly, she was glad that this was her last examination of the school year because she was well beyond the point of restlessness and she was fairly certain that if she had to be confined within another classroom for another hour and a half she would go mental.

Last Two Days

The majority of my marks had already been turned in. All that remained to be handed in to Headmistress McGonagall were the marks from todays three exams and tomorrow's two. Five sets of examinations and this school year would be complete. It would be time for another End of Term Feast and the awarding of the House Cup to the house that received the highest points. I'd promised all three girls they could attend the End of Term feast if they were well behaved their final week of school and daycare - and so far all three of them have been well behaved.

The first group of students had stumbled in at nine this morning, and many of them had actually finished the examination somewhat early - with about sixty percent of the class till remaining when I gave the five minute warning at twenty-five past ten. At precisely ten-thirty I collected the exams and the anti-cheating quills and bade each of my third year Ravenclaw and Slytherins a farewell and that I looked forward to seeing them next year for their final year with me.

Fifteen minutes later, my last group of fourth years began their examinations. They would be with me until quarter past twelve, when they would each receive from me a small gift bag containing a few sweets since they would be moving on to Declan's class when school began next term. A fewer number of my fourth years actually finished their examinations early, and there were about eighty percent remaining when I called the fifteen, ten and five minute warnings. Precisely at twelve fifteen I collected the exams and anti-cheating quills. Several students stopped to talke to me, though many slipped free of the classroom to head to the Great Hall for lunch.

I walked to the Great Hall talking to a couple of my fourth year students and the two girls I'd been talking to volunteered to babysit the girls this summer if I ever had need of one. I thanked them and we parted ways once we entered the Great Hall.

Lunch was a quiet affair, I spent it going through the mail I'd gotten this morning over breakfast before coming to the castle for my exams. Pushing a hand through my hair I smiled at the letter from Broderick Carter, opening the envelope I quickly scanned the letter and the accompanying article from one of the major papers in Mumbai. I would have to see him this summer if I could, he was doing well and I'm glad to have helped him get his footing in Mumbai - with the help of my parents allowing him to stay with them.

I was out of the Great Hall by quarter of one, and there were a handful of my first year Ravenclaw and Slytherin students standing outside of the classroom waiting for me for any last minute questions. I let the four students in and quickly answered their last minute questions as the remainder of the students began trickling into the classroom and find their seats.

The hour and a half for the exam seemed to pass by rather quickly and soon enough I was giving the five minute warning. At quarter to three, I was collecting the exams and the anti-cheating quills and bidding my last group of first years a farewell until the next school year started.

I spent the fifteen minutes between my last exam today and my office hours beginning at three grading the examinations that finished. I intended on having this set of marks to the Headmistress this evening and the final set of marks to her just after lunch tomorrow since my final exam ended at quarter past twelve.

Westwicks and Finals
Author: Rowan Westwick

Rowan sat in the Great Hall and helped herself to a Cornish pasty. She felt ravenously hungry, probably because she'd eaten very little at lunch. Lunch had occurred between her Transfiguration and Potions exams, with Potions scheduled for directly after and being the most nerve-wracking of all her Thursday tests. Despite there technically being one whole hour between Transfiguration and Potions, Rowan's actually lunch time had been far shorter. She hadn't wanted to be late to Potions by any means and had ended up outside the classroom very early.

That had been hours ago, and with perhaps the worst of her exams behind her now, Rowan felt a bit more relaxed. Only two final exams remained for her now: Ancient Runes and Arithmancy & Divination. Both took place tomorrow.

She turned to Lon, who had selected a pasty from the same dish, and smiled at him. They held hands beneath the table, and their knees were touching.

Like Rowan, Lon hadn't quite completed his final exams yet, but he only had one left: Muggle Studies.

Willow, likewise, had three more to go. She sat at the Slytherin table with her Astronomy book open next to her plate. She ate a pasta dish consisting of linguine and chicken in a creamy sauce. Hopefully, the meal wouldn't feel heavy in her stomach or make her even more tired than she probably would be. Her first remaining exam was Astronomy tonight at midnight. Then she'd have to get up bright and early tomorrow morning for Charms. She was NOT looking forward to the short amount of sleep she would be getting overnight.

She looked up when Ash dropped down into the seat beside her. "Hi," she said. "Where've you been?"

"I went to the library," he replied, pouring himself a glass of pumpkin fizz.

"What for?" Willow asked. "You haven't got any exams."

"I agreed to quiz Beatrix on her Ancient Runes."

Willow quirked an eyebrow. "I see." She picked up her Astronomy textbook and put it on the other side of her plate, nearer to Ash. "Maybe you can quiz me on Astronomy."

Ash smiled at her. "Very well. Define gravitational compression."

Willow pursed her lips. "Start with a hard one, why don't you?" She thought it over and then gave her answer, hoping she was right and that if she was, then the question would be on the final.

All Studied Out (Devon)
Author: Christopher Chant
Date:   08-20-15 20:42

Devon mulls over the drink choices before selecting one. Duncan Dippet and Ollie Choate had already gotten something to drink as well as snacks. Devon picks up the glass of ginger beer then navigates around other students, tables, and chairs, reaching the two boys just as Ollie is saying, "I think I'll go check out that chess match," nodding to where Hiram Young and Mickey Moon are intently bent over a board.

Planning on coming back in a few minutes, Ollie leaves his drink and snack. Devon sets her glass down, contemplating if she also wants a snack and if so, what does she want? Duncan helps solves the question by pushing towards her a plate with a variety of biscuits. "Help yourself if you want."

"Thanks." Devon picks what looks like it has chopped walnuts, biting into it to find it's got an apple flavor to go with those walnuts. While chewing she pulls out the Potions study guide. After staring at it a few seconds she laments, "I think I'm all studied out."

"I know what you mean. I know I should go over everything for both exams but I just can't do it." Duncan snags a biscuit off the plate and bites off half of it.

They have exams for Defense Against The Dark Arts and Potions still to take, both of them in the morning. Devon's happy about being finished by lunch tomorrow, knowing that some have exams well into tomorrow afternoon.

Starting at the study guide again Devon gives a small shake of her head then puts it back into her bag. "I guess I'm as ready as I'm going to be."

At a nearby table someone is grumbling loudly enough that Devon and Duncan can't help but overhear. The grumbling has to do with a sibling deemed annoying who starts at Hogwarts in September. Hearing this prompts Devon to ask, "Isn't your brother eleven this year?"

"How do you remember these things?" Duncan asks with a grin before affirming, "Yeah, but Doug's birthday isn't until November. My cousin Grace will be here."

Devon reveals, "I have a cousin coming as well. Vincent."

"I think you've mentioned him before. He's got a sister, right?"

"Viola. Mum told me Vee's not happy Vincent gets to come but not her. She's said she's going to hide in his trunk."

"Not very smart to tell everyone that's what she's going to do," Duncan snickers.

"That's Vee for you. It's not that she's dumb or anything like that. She just doesn't think, especially when she's mad. I heard Mum once say Viola could stand a double dose of common sense."

"Grace got angry she couldn't come last September. She turned eleven after school started, couldn't see why she shouldn't be allowed anyway."

"I have wondered who decided the whole be eleven by September 1st thing," Devon says. "Why not let someone with a birthday on the 2nd come? Or the 3rd? I mean I know there has to be some stopping spot but how was everything decided?"

Ollie plops into his chair then, grabbing for his drink. "What did I miss?"

They catch him up and ask how the chess match was. The rest of the time before returning to Hufflepuff House is spent talking of summer plans and how all too soon they'll be back here at school for another school year.

Scroll Searching
Author: Susan Fricks
Date:   08-21-15 14:06

Susan looked all over her things in search for a missing scroll. She knew the scroll must be around the dormitory somewhere, but she just couldn't locate it. There was a huge noise when her Potions textbook fell from her bedside table right into the floor.

"Would you stop that? There's people trying to sleep!" Patrica complained on the bed next to hers.

"Sorry…" Susan muttered. "I didn't know you were here."

"Just try to keep the noise down," she told her, covering her head with the sheets, too lazy to even sit and close the bed curtains.

Unlike Patricia, Susan was not done with her exams. There was one left, which she would be taking this afternoon. Fitness & Athletics was not a complex subject such as Transfiguration or DADA, but it was still challenging. Susan was trying to find a scroll with the rules of a Muggle game called football, which she had written down a few days ago and needed to memorize.

"Where is it?"

She looked under the bed, but all she could find was a dusty sickle. Susan tried the wardrobe, and she also checked her books, flipping the pages with her wand, in case the piece of scroll had been kept inside one of them. Nothing with the exception of a letter from her cousin Blair. She wanted Susan and Andrina to come and spend a week or two at Suffolk during the summer holidays. Next year Blair was going to attend Hogwarts and she was eager to spend time with her cousins who would tell her all about the school. Susan let go a frustrated growl.

"Hey!" Patricia protested again with the noise.

"Sorry…" she repeated.

That's when she noticed that Buttercup was seated on something. It was the scroll! She shooed the cat away, which offended went to Patricia's bed and snuggled next to her. On some other day Susan might feel hurt about her cat's attitude but right now she was really nervous and she had to study. She picked up the scroll and left the dormitory on her way to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. It might not be the best place to study, but it was quiet and maybe Titus would be there and he might even quiz her, if he had the time.

(Tessa) Finished with Finals
Author: Bronwyn Dewhurst
Date:   08-22-15 11:29

Tessa entered the Hufflepuff common room, which seemed rather fuller than usual, and made her way to the steps leading to her dormitory room. There she found Blakeney kneeling on the floor in front of her large school trunk. Stacks of clothes, books, and other belongings surrounded Blakeney, who looked up when Tessa entered the room.

"Hi, how did your last final go?" Blakeney asked, pausing her packing to give Tessa her full attention.

Tessa shrugged. "I think it went fine. I know Fitness & Athletics isn't a blow-off class by any means, but it's not as stress-inducing as, say, Transfiguration or Potions." She blew out a forceful breath and sat down on the edge of her bed.

"Now on to the next chore," Blakeney said, grabbing several books from the floor.

"Packing?" Tessa asked.

"Packing!" Blakeney replied. "Though I suppose you could wait till tomorrow. We've got all day, after all."

Tessa nodded. "True, but I just know that I'll forget to do something or have to repack because not everything will fit in my trunk the way I want it to. I better at least get started today."

She climbed off her bed and went around to the foot of it, where her own trunk was located. Tessa opened it up and ran her hand through the items already inside. Should she unpack everything and start fresh, or just load in the things not yet in it?

"I can't wait for you to visit me," Blakeney said.

"Me too," Tessa replied with a grin. She had heard stories about the Ellis household and couldn't wait to see the yellow house filled with children. Having grown up an only child, Tessa couldn't imagine having to share everything and always having someone else around.

"I also can't wait for you to visit me," she said. Tessa guessed the Dewhurst-Filby household was much quieter than what Blakeney was accustomed to.

Blakeney smiled at her. "I can't believe we've finished our first year at Hogwarts."

Tessa couldn't believe it either. Not too long ago, she hadn't even known the wizarding world existed. Now she had a whole year of magical schooling behind her. How much things had changed in a small amount of time!

Done With Both Of You
Author: Lucius Malfoy
Date:   08-22-15 14:58

Bellatrix glares at Lucius and Rodolphus. "Why are you both being so stubborn?"

Lucius pinches the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on "You and I have been over this numerous times, Bellatrix."

"We have a chance to regain glory, regain respect. Gudrun and Barty see this Why can't you?"

Rodolphus, who has largely remained silent whilst his wife once again rails at Lucius and him for not throwing in with Adriana Fairchild, loudly expels air. Bellatrix fixes him with her stare.

"Why can't you see that we aren't interested in once more being someone else's flunkies? I've spent goodly amount of my life in prison because of following first Voldemort and then Smythe-Jones. I have no desire to throw my lot in with yet another megalomaniac with visions of world domination."

Bellatrix makes a low noise in the back of her throat that sounds a great deal like a frustrated growl. "Fairchild is carrying out the Dark Lord's vision. How can you not wish to be part of something of such massive historical significance?"

"End end up in jail yet again?" Lucius asks. "No, thank you. I wish to see Carina grow up. I failed Draco in some ways. I won't do that with my daughter."

Bellatrix throws up her arms. She shakes fists at both the men, that frustrated growling more pronounced. "You're giving up everything we've believed in, sacrificed for! Are you such cowards? Weaklings who falter at the least sign of opposition?"

Lucius has been speaking calmly to this point. Now, his voice raises as he forcefully reminds, "I gave years of my life to Voldemort! Narcissa gave her life! I was still so entrenched with visions of pureblood domination that I willingly went along with Smythe-Jones's misguided and ill planned efforts and because of my poor judgement I cannot legally set foot in Britain or territory held by the United Kingdom! What more do you want, Bellatrix? My blood? My life as well? How about Draco's? Carina's? Or little Scorpius? When is enough enough?"

Bellatrix holds Lucius's own pointed stare for a few seconds before shifting to Rodolphus. He's very quiet when he states, "I missed even knowing I had a son much less having the opportunity to be his father, raise him, know him. I know you were never the maternal type, Bellatrix, and if not in Azkaban while pregnant perhaps you would have terminated without letting me know you were even expecting."

"I wouldn't have!" she insists.

Rodolphus continues as if she's not spoken. "How any Lestrange might there be now if we'd not blindly followed Voldemort? What might I have accomplished in life if not for all those years in prison, first because of doing Voldemort's bidding and then because of gleefully jumping on the Smythe-Jones bandwagon? Enough is enough. I'm free, truly free and wish to enjoy life without having to worry whether I'm pleasing some fickle psychopath who doesn't care how many followers are maimed or killed, how many become imprisoned just so long as the grand plan stays on course."

Bellatrix throws up both hands. "I'm done with both of you."

She stalks from the room and after she's been gone a full minute Lucius asks Rodolphus, "How long do you think she's done with us this time?"

Rodolphus, pouring himself a drink, comments, "I give it a week. Two if we're lucky."
