A weekend filled with homework
Author: Cailyn Spicer
Date:   09-18-07 08:41

The weekend was always Cailyn’s favorite time of the week. She loved the weekend mostly because, her time was all her own. She could do whatever she wanted. And she didn’t have to go to class either. She didn’t have to sit there and listen to boring lecture after boring lecture.

Cailyn sighed softly as she tucked her feet under her knees. While she sat in a window seat and stared out at the Hogwarts Grounds. Her eyes drifted over the grounds and then back down to the pile of homework lying next to her. Okay, so the weekends where not completely her own.

She picked up her herbology homework and shook her head. It was so much easier when she had thought she wasn’t coming back to Hogwarts. At least then she could not do her homework, even if it took away points from Gryffindor.

Another sigh came out as she pulled out her pen and paper. Oh joy; it was another weekend for homework. She thought with a little pout.

Unwanted thoughts and memories
Author: Scarlett Carwin
Date:   09-18-07 08:57

Scarlett never did send that letter to the minister of magic. Instead she had swallowed her pride and taken the punishment of not being a pureblood Wizard. She somehow had a feeling that even if she had sent a nice letter, it wouldn’t have done much good. And it might make her look even worst. Not that she cared what people thought of her.

Her eyes drifted to a picture she had of her father and mother. She wondered what they would have thought about all this pureblood nonsense. Her mother wouldn’t have cared. But her father might have. He would have pitched a fit if he knew what the minister of magic was doing. Scarlett sighed. What was the point in wondering what her parents thought? They were dead. She laid the picture down so their faces weren’t staring at her any more.

Scarlett felt tears at the rims of her eyes and shoved them back. She needed some air; she quietly stood up and grabbed her big heavy cloak. It was getting chilly outside. Besides, there wasn’t much for her today. She could use an early lunch break anyway.

With very little sound, Scarlett took the long way out of the Ministry of Magic and found herself in the streets of London.

Going To The Wedding Of Tonks And Lupin
Author: Harry Potter

"You have the gift?" Janine calls down to the living room.

"Yeah, have it in my hand."

"Just let me get my coat and I'll be ready," she calls out again.

Pinky stands beside Harry, fidgeting with a bow tie. "Harry is sure Pinky doesn't need to be more formal?"

"Knowing Tonks, you're already too formal, Pinky," Harry chuckles.

"Just because the bride might not be dressed so formally does not mean the guests may not be," Pinky solomnly informs Harry, adjusting the bright orange tie with black polka dots.

Harry stifles another laugh, turning to see Janine walking into the living room. He hands the wedding gift to Pinky then helps Janine on with her coat.

"We're all set?"

"Ready," Janine nods.

"Yes," Pinky replies, still fiddling with his bow tie.

The room is filled with three cracks as Janine, Pinky, and Harry disapparate. A second later they are going up the walkway to where the wedding is taking place, festive sounds already spilling out into the night air. Harry slips an arm around Janine's waist as they let Pinky proceed them in.

Thinking about how they can't even attend a wedding without Pinky tagging along Harry has a sudden moment that Muggles would call the lightbulb going on.

Pinky.

Ron kept calling Harry a Pinky.

Feeling like slapping his forehead and saying aloud, "Well duh!" Harry ends up grinning even more broadly than he already was, his eyes going from left to right as he searches for Ron to share that dunderhead Harry has finally figured out what ron meant.

Some Halloween Feast
Author: Charisma Stone

Isma sat at the Gryffindor table, behind the stupid purple line. She looked around the great hall. This was nothing like she'd heard tell of what happened here in the past. The mere thought of it made her want to cry. She was not, because Harry the Snide and the stupid Minister of Magic thought she shouldn't, getting the same first year experience at Hogwarts that she should. At least the teachers were nice and...She missed Charlie. If she'd simply stayed at the muggle boarding school she was going to before her letter from Hogwarts arrived, she'd be fine. She'd get to spend time with Charlie, and not have to worry about her blood status.

Currently, she was sitting with Eric Ling and Adella Darling, and Eric's roommate Blake was sitting across from them. "You know, we could be listening to the Orange November right now, or at least soon. But, because we aren't like -them- we are stuck in here. Mum is furious that I am not getting treated fairly, and has been writing to the Ministry, but not getting anywhere." Adella said.

All four of them had read about the new Ministry policy in the Daily Prophet. 'Della had shown it to them the morning it had come in. The quad was quite glad that they weren't being effected by that lovely new twist in screwing with the lives of non pures. "You know what, I should have just gone to a muggle school and forgone coming to Hogwarts, or maybe even gone to Beaubaxton's like me mum did."

"Sure, and you'd not have met us and you would probably be miserable. Am sure Beaubaxtons would have undergone the same fate that Hogwarts did." 'Della shot at her, huffing into her glass of pumpkin juice and turning away from the quad for a moment.

"I'm sorry 'Della. Forgive me?" She hugged the girl. The two boys merely shaking their heads.

"What?" The two girls asked in unison and the boys just laughed.

"Nothing. Save the two of you are positively mental." Blake said with a grin taking a bite of a the chicken he had on his plate. "I wonder how many protesting pures there will be in the Great Hall tonight. I mean, seems there are always some who still do the normal thing despite what Harry the Snide and the Ministry like to decree."

"We'll find out. It's still early." Eric said and the trio fell into a companionable silence.

She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts, the whizzing by of Peeves finally shook her as he dropped a glob of marshmallow goop upon her head. "PEEVES!" She screeched and 'Della cast a cleaning charm on her friend, though soon after the four of them were laughing too hard to see straight, tears running down their cheeks.

At the Wedding
Author: Janine Fox

“Excuse us, ladies.”

Janine gave Hermione a puzzled look as Harry grabbed Ron and pulled him aside.

“I wonder what that’s all about?” Janine said with a grin as she watched the two boys whispering at the sideline and laughing at some secret joke between them. Janine was sitting next to Hermione waiting for the wedding to start.

“Glad to hear about Bill,” Janine said conversationally. “You were absolutely brilliant coming up with the cure.”

“Oh, well I had help,” Hermione murmured modestly, but looked pleased. “I heard that Bill might even make it to the wedding. Wouldn’t that be great?”

Janine nodded in agreement.

“How’s it going at St. Emry’s?” Hermione asked.

“Well… not so good,” Janine lowered her voice so Harry wouldn’t overhear. “It really isn’t the same with all the new rules coming into effect. And with Professor Lupin… I mean, Remus being gone it’s been really tough.”

“Did you lose your job?” Hermione asked, also whispering.

“Not exactly. They’re bouncing me around between the professors. Honestly, it’s a lot more work than what I did for Remus. At this rate I won’t have time for my studies!”

“Why not quit?”

Janine bit her lip nervously. “I need the money,” she finally confessed.

“But surely Harry can…” Hermione’s voice trailed off.

“No. That is not an option.”

Hermione nodded understandingly.

“I’ll figure something out. I just need to talk to someone at the school and work it out.”

Hermione nodded again, but Janine couldn’t help but notice her doubtful look.

“What are you two whispering about?”

Janine jumped as Harry took a seat next to her but recovered quickly. “We’ll tell you, if you tell us what you and Ron were laughing about.”

Ron opened his mouth, but Harry shook his head to stop him. “I would, but I think the wedding is about to start.”

Saved by the bride, Janine thought to herself as she settled into her chair and motioned Pinky over.

No Fancy Dress Party
Author: Emerald Green
Date:   09-19-07 16:38

On the way into the Great Hall for the Halloween feast, Emerald overhead one of the Ravenclaws, she thinks a girl named Georgia, saying to Coco Nutt, "To bad this isn't fancy dress."

Emerald didn't think to ask until later thanks to Phin distracting her. A quick kiss as he pulled her out of the way of the flow of students just inside the Great Hall doors. "You look lovely as always."

Emerald grinned in return, "You clean up nicely yourself. Are you sure you're not going to be in trouble for not going to the Pures only feast?"

"I don't think I'll be. Nothing was announced about it being mandatory for Pures to go to that one instead of this one. I wish we could sit together."

"Even if we were in the same house we couldn't sit together."

"We could in a way. If we got here early enough to snag a seat on each side of the purple line. Too bad we didn't think to get here earlier. I bet I could have gotten away with sitting at the Hufflepuff table."

Emerald couldn't think of anything to say to that. Like many others, she figures that any time now Snider will announce that Pures may sit at whatever table they wish.

Phin escorted Emerald to her table then with another quick kiss went over to sit at the Ravenclaw one. Emerald then gave her attention the food already on the tables and could tell just from what little had been set out so far that this feast is not going to be anything like last year's.

"This seat taken?"

Emerald shakes her head, "Hi, Jewel. Not that I know of."

Phin's stepsister sits down, looking nice in her feast worthy robes. Seeing Jewel in her not quite formal dress robes and taking in how dressed up others were, Emerald remembers to ask about the fancy dress comment she'd overhead.

"One of the Ravenclaws said something about how it was too bad this isn't fancy dress. Most everyone is dressed nicer than usual, some even in their formal robes. Was she meaning she wishes it was an occassion for everyone to wear their formal robes and not just those who wanted to?"

Jewel shakes her head. "Fancy dress and formal have nothing to do with each other."

"They don't?"

"You know, fancy dress."

Seeing Emerald's blank look Jewel asks, "When you Americans say fancy dress as in fancy dress ball what do you mean?"

"Well, we don't very often refer to balls or parties as fancy dress. We would call them formals."

"But formal and fancy dress don't have anything to do with one another," Jewel states again.

"I'm not getting what you mean," Emerald ruefully smiles.

Jewel thinks about it a second then says, "What do you call it then if costumes are worn?"

"Um, costume party or costume ball."

"Ah, no wonder we were confusing each other. Over here if someone says something is fancy dress that means costumes are worn."

"Oh. Okay. I have it now, thanks. I don't know about the American Wizarding world but in the Muggle one, if someone talks about dressing fancy, they're meaning dressing, not necessarily formal wear but dressier than usual."

"Costumes might have made tonight more tolerable though somehow I doubt that. I think Snider would shudder at the thought of fancy dress. That's mainly a Muggle Halloween thing."

Emerald grins, "Oh then we definately all should have come in costume, I mean fancy dress, just to annoy her."

Jewel snickers, "I wish we'd thought to plan for it earlier in the week. I'm sure most everyone here tonight, including the professors, would have done fancy dress. Though maybe it would have gone over Snider's head. She might never make an appearance in the Great Hall tonight what with her Pures only feast and concert."

"Yeah, that's true. Still, it would have been fun."

Jewel snickers again, "Definately!"

See You Later
Author: Nymphadora Tonks
Date:   09-20-07 20:50

The backyard at Lupin's Blackpool home had been set up for his wedding to Tonks. It was an extremely informal affair, with simple foldable chairs lined up in several rows serving as the only real structure signifying a ceremony soon to be taking place. A wizard stood at the front of the aisle between the rows of chairs, clutching a scroll to his chest. Lupin stood next to him, with Sirius standing by him as his best man. Neither Lupin nor Tonks had done any real planning for the wedding, as it was a very impromptu decision, but Lupin knew that he wanted Sirius standing beside him at the altar. Sirius was his oldest and dearest friend.

Tonks appeared at the end of the aisle wearing torn blue jeans and a faded brown women's fit T-shirt that had the words Born to be Bad printed on the front in jagged, black lettering. Her hair was barely shorter than shoulder-length and black with orange tips. She immediately saw her mother's face fall when they locked eyes. Andromeda liked Lupin well-enough but didn't like to see her daughter rush into marriage with him––especially dressed like she was going to a rock concert instead of to her own wedding.

The ceremony itself lasted less than 10 minutes. Lupin and Tonks kissed their first kiss as husband and wife. The rows of chairs were pulled apart to form little groups. Food appeared on a buffet table set out in the lawn. Though it was dark and wintry, the entire area had been charmed with heat to keep the guests warm and comfortable while they celebrated the wedding under the starry night's sky.

Tonks mingled with absolutely everyone to attend her wedding, and when she threw her bouquet of rather plain daisies, Ron Weasley accidentally caught it, which gave everyone a great big laugh. Bill, still recovering from his downtime but looking healthier and healthier everyday, teased Ron relentlessly about his catch. Tonks laughed so hard she cried, and when she realized that it was nearly time to take her leave with Lupin, she cried some more. Although it wouldn't be goodbye forever, and although a wizard's mode of transportation was a lot faster than a muggle's, Tonks would miss her family and friends dearly. As much as she came to hate her job in the last few weeks, overall she'd loved it and would miss the good old days terribly.

Lupin clutched her hand and whispered, "Are you all right?"

Tonks started laughing and backhanded her tears. "You know. I think I will be. I'm ready to start my life with you. Maybe we should go now."

"Are you sure? We can say longer if you'd like to take some more time to say goodbye."

"No." Tonks shook her head. "It's not goodbye, after all. It's just see you later."

Lupin grinned, kissed Tonks and then turned to the gathering crowd. "Attention everyone. Attention! My beautiful bride and I just want to say thank you to you all for coming to our wedding. We hope you had a wonderful time. We certainly did, but now it's time for us to take our leave. We want you all to visit us at our new home in Santorini when you get the chance, and maybe sometime, when times are better, we'll move closer to our families again."

Lupin fell silent for a moment, as the gravity of his words hung in the air. Everyone was still tense over Minister Smythe-Jones' most recent proclamations that people like Tonks' own kin Bellatrix Lestrange were now free, even though they'd done atrocious things in the past. What was the wizarding world coming to, that known killers and supporters of ultimate evil could now walk free?

Lupin smiled and hugged Tonks closer to him. She smiled too. "I guess this is goodbye," she said softly, gazing from face to face, especially to her mother and father. She left Lupin's embrace to hug them both.

"No," Lupin reminded them all with a smile, "this is see you later."

Just Another Hogwarts Supper
Author: Marzipan
Date:   09-20-07 21:05

Marzipan sat in attendance at the so-called Halloween Feast for the nons, though it was anything but the Halloween feasts she'd attended at Hogwarts since first accepting her job at the school over two years ago. The dining chamber was plain––even the charmed night's sky looked unimpressive. She felt so sorry for the students stuck in the Great Hall. Many of them looked listless and disappointed that they weren't allowed to see Orange November play in the pureblood only common room. She wished she could do something nice for them but knew that Snider would somehow make them suffer for her good will.

She frowned into her water goblet and tried to think of something more cheerful, but nothing good came to mind. Her mother hadn't spoken to her since the funeral of Constantius, and even there she'd been quite rude. Marzi supposed she couldn't blame her, because Marzi's actions had probably ultimately led to Constantius' murder-suicide quest. She tried not to blame herself for her father's death, and Weston helped dissuade her from those types of thoughts. Weston was, perhaps, the best thing in her life right now. He was her rock. He kept her grounded and sane. She was able to compain to him about all the bad things happening in her personal life and at work and he would listen without interruption or lend her his shoulder to cry on. She was very glad to have him in her life.

"When do you think this madness will stop?" Illyria asked, cutting into Marzi's thoughts. The two women sat side by side, like they often did in the Great Hall.

"I don't think it will stop until Euphemia Smythe-Jones is out of office, and only then if she is replaced by someone who isn't exactly like her," Marzi replied. "I wish there was a public outcry against her."

"I think there's less chance of that happening now," Illyria commented, frowning. "She's let criminals go free. They will obviously do anything to keep her in charge, because anyone else might put them back in Azkaban or on the most-wanted lists. People are going to be too frightened to say anything against her, for fear that some ex-Death Eater is going to use the Death Curse on them."

"This is tyranny," Marzi said, shaking her head.

"I know, but what can we do?"

Marzi pondered that thought for a long while. What could they do to set the world back in order? Surely there must be something!
