Costumes (various Hodfuffer cousins)

**Information on costumes worn by the NPCs of others comes from those others. Thanks!**

Sitting with Jack Emerson and Deak Bennett, Wiggersmythe Hodfuffer eyes his empty plate. "Do I want dessert yet or do I want to go back for seconds of other things?"

Jack, dressed as a pirate complete with eye patch and peg leg, scoffs, "What do you mean seconds?"

Wiggy flicks a piece of skin still left from a baked potato at his friend. "You know what I mean."

"I think for both of you it would be more of a case of fifty-seconds," Deak snorts. "If I didn't know better I would say you're trying to beat Kody's eating record," Deak says of Jack's cousin Kody Reese-Emerson, who happens to also be Deak's brother's best friend.

"This eye patch messes up my visual perception, making it look like there's less food," Jack says in a grave tone.

"Using the big words tonight, Jack. Show off." Wiggy grins, still trying to decide if he's ready to move on to dessert yet.

"I thought pirates just said things like Argh! and Avast ye mateys!."

Jack smirks at Deak, "Walk the plank. And if I'm only supposed to use pirate speak then shouldn't you just be communicating with grunts and whatever else mountain trolls use for language?"

Deak raises his troll club, brandishing it about. "Be glad I didn't go for the authentic eau du troll fragrance."

Wiggy grimaces at that thought. "If you had, I'm not sure I would have made it through even one helping much less the fifty-two you say I've had."

"Yes, well, that jellyfish that passes for a hat is somewhat stomach turning, Uric the Oddball," Jack informs Wiggy, who is dressed as one of the famous Wizards from the Wizarding trading cards.

Wiggy shrugs then laughs. "It does look pretty nasty, doesn't it?" Looking at his empty plate again, he stands with a decisive nod. "Right. Off to get dessert; and maybe another slice or three of pizza."

Deak pats his fully belly. "Only at a Hogwarts feast would we see pizza alongside steak, curried chicken, and tacos."

"Want me to bring either of you anything?"

"I'll come with. See what's there," Deak says getting up.

"Me too," Jack replies.

Walking to the nearest of the dessert buffet tables, the three friends pass the table where Wiggy's sister Gloriaspasiana and cousin Hydrangea are sitting. Seeing Deak and Jack, whom they both think are not only so very cool but also so very cute, Glori and Hydrangea wave and call out compliments to their costumes. Hydrangea, who happens to love the flower she's named for, had nearly decided to be a bluish-purple hydrangea for Halloween. Upon further thought she rejected that idea, thinking that she's a Hydrangea every other day of the year so for this one party, she'd be something else.

After much thought, talking with friends and even that nice Professor Miller to get ideas, Hydrangea decided to dress is traditional Muggle Korean hanbok. She thinks the fit and style of her blue gown would make a lovely set of Wizarding dress robes, so is going to keep the outfit at school as a dress robes option in case the first years have occassions for more formal wear this term.

Glori had known immediately what she wanted as soon as the students were told they could do costumes for Halloween. Glori is dressed as the well known Morgana Gobshaw, the intrepid Auror in training in one of her Uncle AJ's book series.

Once sure that Wiggy, Jack, and Deak are out of ear shot she asks Hydrangea, "Do you think either of them would wait for me to be a little older and then be my boyfriend?"

"Wouldn't that be nice?" Hydrangrea sighs. "Don't hold out for them though. You never know who might come along and get your attention. Besides, you're only twelve."

"I know, but it's something to dream about."

"In that case, dream grander, like Professor Somerset or Viktor Krum or Harry Potter."

"Ron Weasley is cuter."

"I've been to the Crown & Cauldron enough to have seen Ron Weasley to know he's practically married."

"Practically isn't the same as is."

"I know, but you're talking about the famouse Hermione Granger's man."

"Just makes him cuter to know he's taken."

Hydrangea looks over to the next table where their cousin Augustus, dressed as something called an RAF officer, is sitting with his best friend Caerwyn Valentine, in Chinese Fireball costume. Even though the table is close it's not so close she could be heard unless she talked really loudly. Nevertheless she lowers her voice. "I think Caerwyn's cute and he's close enough to my age I don't have to wonder if he'd wait a few years for me to be old enough to date."

"Good point, but the problem there is he's twelve and while he might like girls, I don't know many boys that age who'll admit to liking girls."

"Back to drooling over Professor Somerset it is then."

Hydrangea and Glori look to where the professor in question is sitting, both of them making little sighing sounds as they do.

Happy Halloween
Author: Majandra
Date:   09-13-09 13:18

When the Hogwarts staff was given confirmation of costumes being allowed for this term's Halloween Feast and for a party afterwards, Majandra had immediately begun thinking of costumes for and George might wear and if they took the children to the feast, what costumes she'd do for them. When she asked her husband what he'd like to be, his reply had been typical tongue-in-cheek George.

"I'll go as Fred."

"Always so clever."

"Aren't I just," he grinned before saying, "Suprise me."

Maj gave thought to many costumes, rejecting some while keeping mind others as possibilities. Included in her overall list were holiday fall inspired ones of pumpkin, autumn leave, acorn, and gourd; Christmas items of tree, present, star, and ornament; flowers and insects; picking a country at random and wearing garments inspired its cultures; woodland creatures; and angels and devils.

The decision on fancy dress for all four of ended up being none of those or other ideas. One evening while she and the children were visiting her Muggle grandparents, Miranda became enraptured watching an animated version of Alice in Wonderland. At one point the three year old went right up to the telly and tapping it said to Maj, "I wike her dwess, Mummy."

"You like Alice's dress?"

"Yes."

"Would you like me to make you one just like it?"

"Yes!"

The scene playing involved the Mad Hatter. With wheels churning in her head, Maj asked her daughter, "Do you think Daddy would like a Mad Hatter outfit?"

Miranda, her attention back on the telly, had nodded. "And what of Georgie?"

"The mouse or cat."

"Dormouse or Cheshire Cat. Yes, he would make a cute little Dormouse, I should think."

Maj hadn't asked Miranda an opinion on a fancy dress for Mummy. Knowing her daughter Miranda would have been as likely to suggested Tweedledum or the Caterpiller. No, Maj had just the costume in mind for herself once Miranda got her thinking of Alice in Wonderland inspired outfits.

The Friday of Halloween was a busy one with Maj teaching until three and George at the Hogsmeade branch of Weasleys Wizard Wheezes, having a booming business selling Halloween inspired joke items, not only through owl order to students in schools like Hogwarts, but adults of all ages with Halloween parties to attend. Most would be going to regular Wizarding Halloween parties but from what George gathered from a few, some were also going to fancy dress parties as well.

Once Maj's class of third year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws came to an end, she'd hurried into Hogsmeade to pick up the children from Blossom's. She's changed them there at the day care then Floo'd to her parents home so they could see the children all dressed up. With her parents, they'd then driven over to her grandparents to go trick or treating in that neighborhood. By then, Maj was also in costume, dressed as the Red Queen.

Once back at her parents, the children and she had Floo'd to the shop in Hogsmeade. George, making a grand Mad Hatter, was just finishing up with a customer. Once done, the family walked to Hogwarts, Miranda dancing ahead of them so her skirt kept poofing out in flounces.

At the school, Miranda took great delight in seeing the students and staff in such a wide variety of costumes. A number of students, girls in particular, doted on Miranda and Georgie, which is what always happens when Miranda has either or both with her at Hogwarts.

The feast was great fun, the Great Hall as festive as George and Maj remember from their own student days. With others on staff having small children there, Miranda especially had even more fun than she might otherwise. She also delighted in seeing "Uncle" Mason even though Mason Jeffers is not technically her uncle. Miranda doesn't understand that though. All she knows is that Uncle Pyrrhus is Mummy's brother and if Mason is Uncle Pyrrhus's brother, then he must be an uncle too. For a child, that does make perfect sense.

Mason, who nearly got a Darth Vader costume but decided the helmet would be stuffy, was dressed as a Roman gladiotor. He never seemed to mind having Miranda refer to him as "Uncle Mason" so Maj hasn't tried overly hard to correct the child over it.

George had a great time going around and taking stock of the fancy dress, handing out percent off coupons to everyone and giving a few with really outstanding costumes coupons for free items. Keeping in mind the Muggle custom of passing out candy on Halloween, each coupon was attached to packets of candy.

By the time most everyone had had dessert, Georgie was asleep and Miranda was fighting to stay away. With another big day to follow with the Hogwarts Fall Fair, George and Maj made their goodbyes and left before the band was brought out and the music cranked up for the party following the feast.

Back home now, both the children passed out in their beds, Maj comes downstairs to find George still wearing his Mad Hatter outfit. He pats the spot on the couch beside him, inviting her to snuggle. As he drapes an arm over across her shoulders, George says, "You know, I quite like this outfit. I think I'll wear it at the shop from time to time. Fred's going to want his own."

Maj laughs, pulls away from George and gets up to go over to one of the window seats. Lifting up the seat to the storage compartment below, she pulls out a box and then brings out a hat very similar to the one George is wearing but in different colors. "I thought he might so I made him one too."

"It's things like this that I keep you around, wife."

Settling back onto the couch beside George, Maj coyly says, "I have other talents, you know."

"I do know but perhaps you wouldn't mind demonstrating them for me again."

Maj jumps off the couch again and heads for the kitchen. "I'll make you a sandwich then, though Merlin knows where you'll put it after that Hogwarts feast."

George tosses a pillow at her as she laughs then gets up to chaser Maj into the kitchen.

After the Feast
Author: Ronan Eastwick
Date:   09-13-09 19:02

At the Halloween Feast, Ronan had shared a table with Titus, his sister Artemis, and a few others. They'd all eaten their fill of the various delectable dishes, which had ranged from appetizers and entrées to dessert and more dessert. Ronan was glad he'd gone dressed as a Muggle basketball player, since the elastic waistband of his shorts expanded comfortably with his full stomach.

With the end of the feast came the start of the Costume Party. The buffet tables shrank to accommodate finger food and beverages. A little over half of tables everyone had sat at during the meal vanished, and the rest moved to the sides of the Great Hall, opening a large dance floor in the middle of the spacious room. A stage appeared in front of the staff tables.

When the doors to the Great Hall opened, everyone glanced that way in hushed anticipation. Then one by one, the members of the all girl pop group The Sniglets ran into the Great Hall, each one wearing a different Halloween Costume. The crowd of students and staff parted down the middle automatically, allowing the girls to run for the stage while they waved, smiled and occasionally clasped hands with somebody along the way.

When they reached the stage, the lead singer, dressed as a Muggle school girl, used the Sonorus spell to amplify her voice and then shouted, "Good evening, Hogwarts! Happy Halloween!"

This was met by loud cheers and screams.

"Are you ready to rock?!" she yelled.

"Yeah!" Ronan shouted, along with everyone else.

The girls launched into their first song, complete with dance moves and not exactly what Ronan would classify as rock music, but it had a good beat and he found himself bobbing his head to the rhythm.

"Want to dance?" someone shouted to him. It was Artemis.

Ronan was surprised but readily agreed. "Sure, but I'm a bad dancer."

"Have you ever danced with anyone before?"

"Not that I recall."

"Then how do you know you're a bad dancer?"

Ronan smiled. "Good point."

He and Artemis started dancing together, while The Sniglets did their thing on stage.
