Gryffindor vs Slytherin 2007
Author: Viktor Krum
Date:   01-07-14 16:17

"I have an urge to run to the locker room and suit up," Marjani sighs.

"If you weren't on a university team, I might feel sorry for you," Zuberi says with a laugh.

"Don't you miss playing?"

"I do still play, but only for fun."

Sipping coffee, a foot on the trunk containing today's game balls, Viktor asks, "Did you ever like playing competitively, Zuberi?"

"Sort of but not like Marjani and Thedosia. I am competitive and I like winning but I enjoy Quidditch more when it's not something like this. I also like it more when not playing keeper." By now, it's well known to Marjani and Viktor that of the four Quidditch positions, keeper is Zuberi's least favorite, and is the position he was assigned to play when last part of a competitive team, that of his Hogwarts house Slytherin.

"We'll have to get a friendly game going sometime soon. I'll even let you play chaser or beater," Marjani says with a grin.

"Let me?" Zuberi says with a snort, though more of an amused one rather than a condescending one.

"We should truly do that," Viktor says, "but it is now time to clear the pitch for this match."

He hands Marjani his empty coffee cup and watches the two walk off toward one of the stands where Zuberi plans to cheer on his girlfriend Olive while Marjani will cheer on Olive while also rooting for her former team, Gryffindor. Viktor turns to look where the match's announcer sits giving a running commentary on how both Gryffindor and Slytherin fared during the exhibition matches in October. Nodding at Viktor's signal, the chatter shifts to announcing the two teams and the players on each.

For Gryffindor are captain Hunter Rabnott, who's a chaser along with Mildred Campbell and Max Owens, co-captain and keeper Hunter Green, beaters Edgar Steele and Madoc McGonagall, and keeper Cai Carter.

For Slytherin are chasers Malden McGonagall, Mason Jeffers, and Olive Green, who is also co-captain. The keeper is Gus van Tassel, with beaters Asher Kent and captain Mark Farnon. Slytherin's seeker is Rylee Marks.

The players on the pitch, Viktor calls the captains forward to give the standard play fair speech and has Mark and Hunter Rabnott shake hands. This is followed by the release of the balls, the red quaffle the focus of the six chasers while the two seekers are immediately in search mode for the snitch, and the four beaters locate the two bludgers while taking stock of where one of those black balls should first be sent.

(Mark) Head in the Game

As soon as the balls were in the air, Mark propelled himself after the nearest bludger, eyeballing not only it, but the position of all the other players. The McGonagall boy––Madoc, not Malden––raced in the direction of the same bludger and would have reached it first, had his path not been cut off by Olive. She had been the first to lay her hands on the quaffle and moved quickly towards the Gryffindor hoops with the other five chasers hot on her tail.

Mark swooped past Madoc and gave the bludger a solid whack, aiming for Mildred, the Gryffindor chaser nearest to Olive. New beater Asher, a quick learner although a bit overconfident at times, moved in position to assist Mark. In the course of her flying, Mildred managed to shift away from the bludger's path without even realizing it. It would have sailed neatly through the air without striking anybody, if Asher hadn't intercepted it. The younger beater made a quick reassessment of where it was needed best, decided Mildred was still the most important target, and hit the ball in her direction.

It struck her in the upper arm and temporarily distracted her from Olive, who took the opportunity to pass the quaffle to Mason. Mason let it fly towards Malden, who tucked the red ball in the crook of his arm. He was soon flanked by the Gryffindor chasers, who realized they might have better luck harassing the novice chaser on the Slytherin team.

Mark sprinted towards a bludger intended for Malden courtesy of Edgar, cutting it off before it entered the immediate space of the pack of chasers. He had his choice of targets and went with Max, who took the black ball between the shoulder blades. Mark used the same bludger against Mildred, but Edgar got in the way.

By now, the pack reached scoring range. Gryffindor keeper Hunter Green prepared for the onslaught by hovering tensely over his broomstick and keeping his eyes on the quaffle. Malden felt too boxed in to pass the quaffle to either Olive or Mason, so he did the only thing he could. He tried to score.

Hunter easily caught the quaffle and put it back into play via the other Hunter.

Mark frowned, but it was early yet and anything could happen in the match. They were only getting warmed up, after all. He threw himself back into searching for a bludger to use against the Gryffindors, not once thinking about all the trouble in his personal life.

Feisty
Author: Mildred
Date:   01-08-14 13:09

Another bludger hit her, making Mildred grind her teeth with the pain. Her instinct was to turn around and see which one of the Slytherin chasers had hit her this time, but instead of doing so she focused on Hunter, Rabnott, not Green, who had the quaffle. She followed him, ready to assist him so they could do some of the moves they had trained during the practices.

But the practices had nothing to do with being on the pitch because now they had to deal with the other chasers and this time it wasn't Madoc or Edgar trying to hit her, but Asher Kent and Mark Farnon, who as the Slytherin captain and a seventh year intimidated Mildred more than any of the other players.

Hunter passed the quaffle to Max who accelerated and passed by Mason and Malden. Mildred tried to keep up and Max threw her the quaffle that she grabbed with ease. She was flying into the hoops guarded by Gus van Tassel, already trying to study which would be the best one to aim at. She didn't realize another bludger was approaching and once again it hit her, this time harder than before. She dropped the quaffle and Olive Green didn't lose any second grabbing it. Mildred turned the direction of her broom, chasing Olive and the other Slytherin chasers, who now had the quaffle's possession.

Olive passed the quaffle to Malden. Hunter tried to get in the way but he wasn't fast enough. Max was blocking Mason and Malden had no option to pass the quaffle back to Olive because Mildred was right at his side, ready to try and steal the red ball from him. Olive was now in front of the Gryffindor's hoops, her younger brother in the way, ready for her to shoot. Who would win such duel? There was a wave of applause on the Gryffindor side of the stands: Hunter had made another defense.

He quickly passed the quaffle to Max and the Gryffindor chasers, eager to also do a successful attack, worked their way towards the Slytherin's side of the pitch. The game speeded up. It was still early but Mildred was already starting to feel the acute pain caused by the bludgers that had hit her. For a moment she thought about giving up. That she was failing and making her teammates and house look bad. She heard another bludger approaching but this time Madoc came to her rescue. She dodged right on time, giving him room to use the bat to try and hit one of the Slytherin chasers, or even the seekers.

Mildred concluded that perhaps she had become the main target of the Slytherin beaters because she was the younger chaser and the only girl. Maybe they were hitting her forcing her to give up. Not wanting to give the Slytherins that satisfaction she quickly composed herself, ready to change into a more feisty attitude.

Hunter Rabnott noticing she was free passed her the quaffle. Mildred passed it to Max and she got rid of Malden who was on her tail, becoming free once again. Max threw her the quaffle and she grabbed it. Now she was the one face to face with Gus. She raised her arm, aimed to the right hoop and shot. She watched the ball's trajectory with anticipation hoping Gus wouldn't be able to catch it on time.

(Asher) Need to Concentrate

Asher frantically hurtled after one of the bludgers, desperate to get to it and use it to Slytherin's advantage the very same moment Mildred attempted her goal. He knew there wasn't enough time to do everything he wanted with that bludger, but at least there was the satisfaction in knowing that the Gryffindor beaters wouldn't be using it against Gus. Unfortunately, Edgar aimed the other one at the Slytherin keeper, and Mark also wasn't in the best position to make an interception.

The bludger struck Gus in the shoulder, just as he was moving to block the hoop Mildred had chosen for her goal attempt. The force of the black ball pushed him backwards a bit and gave the quaffle the opportunity to sail cleanly through the ring.

"Campbell scores ten points for Gryffindor!" shouted the announcer.

Asher scowled and gave the bludger a solid whack in Mildred's direction, just because he could.

Gus threw the ball underhandedly to Olive, who caught the red ball before any of the Gryffindors could intercept it, and they certainly tried. There seemed to be a tangle of limbs and broomsticks, and then Olive burst free of the crowd, flanked closely by Mason and Malden.

Asher hastened after them, checking for both bludgers and finding them both occupied at the moment. Mark was using one against Max, who had managed to pull ahead and was trying to infiltrate the Slytherin's tight formation. Madoc had the other appeared to be targeting Malden. His mind made up, Asher hurried to protect Malden, who was not only his roommate and friend, but also Madoc's brother.

Asher got the impression that Malden and Madoc tolerated each other, though being sorted into separate houses seemed to have put some distance between them. In a lot of ways, the McGonagall boys were just like Asher and Arielle, except that Asher had never been able to tolerate his twin sister. She was probably somewhere in the stands, cheering on her stupid house instead of him. And what about dear, old Dad?

Asher rushed to Malden's defense, barely making it, and swung his bat hard at the bludger. It hit the bat high and nearly smashed Asher's fingers. The ball's hard contact certainly did a number on his arm, and the inadequate placement of the ball to bat meant he couldn't control it very well. It simply ricocheted off the bat and returned to Madoc, who used it again, this time against Olive.

Asher's scowl deepened. He had allowed himself to get distracted by thinking about his dumb sister and bothersome father. No more, he vowed. He got into position again, this time striking the bludger more accurately, sending it far away from Olive, and giving her that much more of a chance of reaching the Gryffindor goal hoops.

Score Still 10-0 (Hunter)
Author: Aaron Miller
Date:   01-08-14 18:00

Though stoked his team scored first, Hunter Rabnott knows that doesn't mean Gryffindor can rest on its laurels. Depending on how things go, that could be the only goal for Gryffindor or they could have twenty more with Slytherin making so many that even if Cai were to get the snitch, Slytherin would win.

In ducking a bludger, Hunter missed seeing a pass between Olive and Malden. Mouth screwed up, he thinks it's too bad how blink and you miss something this game can be. Then again, that's true of many sports, Wizarding and Muggle alike.

Malden drives in close to where Hunter Green is on high alert. He's ready for whatever Malden throws at him, which turns out not to come this time. A combination of bludger from Edgar and Max getting in close has Malden's throw going off kilter. Hunter snags it a half second before Mason, pivoting his broom around to take off the other direction, forcing Mason to pull back or be hit by his broom in the process.

Hunter would love to sprint away but being so close to the Gryffindor hoops with everyone bunched in together means having to maneuver around others to get away. Mildred is furthest out and once he's able, Hunter hurls the quaffle to her. Mildred makes a nice catch, tucking the ball in close as she accelerates back toward Gus and the Slytherin hoops. Olive is hot on her heels with the other four chasers speeding to catch them up.

Mildred is forced to slow, not only because of Olive harassing her and Asher after her with a bludger, but both seekers are crossing her path at slightly different levels. Far easier to slow somewhat than diving or climbing while trying to second guess what Cai and Rylee are going to do. This slowing, which is actually a very slight reduction in speed, does allow the other chasers to reach Mildred and Olive.

Max is open so Mildred passes to him. Malden closes in on him, hand reaching out in an effort to steal the quaffle. Max responds by rolling away, while adding speed. That's when Mark gets him with one of the hard, black bludgers. Max drops the quaffle with Maldren trying to grab for it. Because Max is rolled to one side and because of the speeds the two are going, Malden isn't able to take possession. Mason, however, is able to get to it before Mildred does.

Mason had come in on the quaffle at a curving angle, putting him more pointed towards Hunter Green. This allows him to rapidly pull away as Hunter (Rabnot, not Green) get turned around, hastening to get to Mason to steal or intercept or, as far as the other two Slytherins are concerned, to assist Mason in moving the quaffle back to the Gryffindor hoops.

Tying The Score (Olive)
Author: Emerald Green
Date:   01-09-14 16:12

A time out called just after the quaffle is knocked out of bounds by a bludger aimed at Mason, Olive takes the moment to rub her shoulder. She has no idea why it's stiff and sore other than maybe she slept oddly on it. It's not as bad as when she first got up this morning but a bludger to it will fix that. Too bad it wouldn't fix it in a good way.

Time out over, Olive and her teammates separate. Mark and Asher head to locations where they will be close to bludgers when the quaffle is put back into play. Rylee prepares to continue the search for the golden, winged snitch. Gus returns to his position in front of the Slytherin hoops while Mason, Malden, and Olive fly to where Coach Krum waits with the quaffle. Mason is the last person to have hands on the red ball so Slytherin reclaims possession as the match resumes.

Mason accepts the quaffle from Coach Krum, throwing it to Malden. Malden gets his broom moving, Mason and Olive flanking him on either side. Madoc gets a bludger off at his brother but Mark quickly moves in to put himself between the bludger and Malden. Mark redirects the bludger towards Max, one of the two new Gryffindor players.

Max manages to avoid the bludger, getting in close to Olive as Malden prepares to pass the quaffle to her. Max's effort to intercept ends up with him having to jerk his broom away when he nearly collides with Olive. Unimpeded, Olive easily catches the ball then pours on more speed, closing the distance to where her Gryffindor keeper brother Hunter keenly watches the quaffle's location.

Close enough for a goal attempt, Olive aims at the hoop to her right, which is Hunter's left. He's able to smack the quaffle away, Mason there for the rebound. Mason goes to throw for his own goal attempt but has to dodge a bludger first. Once clear, he hurls the ball at one of the hoops. Hunter once again knocks the quaffle back. It comes in Olive's direction but the other Hunter is there trying to grab it first.

Hunter Rabnott and she bump heads as they lunge for the quaffle. Fingers coming up on the ball, Olive literally scoops it towards her, ignoring the throb in her skull for the time being. Hold on the quaffle secure, Olive once again throws it. Her brother's fingers graze it but not enough to firmly push the ball back. The quaffle goes through the hoop, if somewhat wobbly thanks to Hunter's efforts to stop it.

The score is now tied 10 to 10.

Stopping Slytherin From Scoring Again (Hunter)
Author: Emerald Green
Date:   01-09-14 17:35

Somewhere between fifteen to twenty minutes after Olive made Slytherin's first, and hopefully only, goal of the match neither Hunter nor Gus had gotten much participation in the game. The bulk of the action has been in between the two sets of hoops with it rarely coming in close to either in the fifteen to twenty minute time span.

Now, it looks as though Hunter's going to get back into the thick of things. Malden's just stolen the quaffle from the other Hunter, enabled by a bludger hitting Hunter just as he'd caught the ball. Malden quickly pivots his broom to race towards Hunter. He makes it all the way to Hunter without anyone forcing him to slow though Edgar makes a good attempt with a bludger sent Malden's way.

Malden aims and throws the quaffle. Hunter bats the quaffle away using the flat of his hand. By that time others have arrived. Though he tries to bat the ball in Mildred's direction, it's Mason who snatches up the quaffle. The Slytherin lets the red ball go but Hunter is again able to deflect it, though this time he does so after being knocked in the side by a bludger from Asher.

Max is able to grab the ball this time around only to have Mark get him with the bludger that had just been used against Hunter. That wallop allows Olive to grab the ball away. She throws but it's somewhat off kilter. Hunter's able to halt his sister's goal attempt with a kick to the quaffle. Mildred is able to grab the rebound this time. She weaves around the tight cluster of chasers, prepares to duck a bludger only to have Madoc redirect it before it gets to her, and takes off down the pitch, the other chasers right behind.

Get in the Game

I wished the time out was longer, or that I wasn't actually flying above everyone else right now considering that my head felt like there was a giant pounding a drum between my temples and the sunlight wasn't helping at all. Migraines suck, and coupled with the beginnings of a head cold was making it nearly unbearable to get my head fully in the damned game.

The score was tied ten-ten and I was simply praying that I would find the snitch soon so I could go curl up in my bed with the curtains drawn after taking a headache potion or a cold potion or something and just nap for the rest of the day. I was miserable.

"Look out Cai..."

I blinked, just in time to get out of the way of a bludger that had gone wide. I thanked Rylee and we both once again started trying to find the snitch, that winged golden ball that was the hardest to find and worth the most points.

I took a few moments, hovering over the chaos, taking time to close my eyes and rest a few moments because I was exhausted and the giant seriously was pounding harder and harder on that drum making me nauseated - maybe another time out would do well and I will see about getting a headache potion for the rest of this match.

I'd been so focused inward, that I had apparently missed something major happening, because all of a sudden there was screaming and cheering coming from the Gryffindor section - opening my eyes, I turned to find out what had happened, just in time to see Hunter, Green not Rabnott, managed to deflect another attempt at a goal from the Slytherin chasers.

Getting my head straight, I started hunting for the snitch again.

(Malden) Scowling
Author: Minerva McGonagall
Date:   01-10-14 16:53

Mildred raced away from the Gryffindor goal hoops, with Max and Hunter R. close by to lend her assistance if necessary. Malden scurried after them, but not without giving Rylee a scathing look. Had he just heard her call out a warning to the enemy? While it was true that Cai looked as if she might keel over at any moment, there was no reason for Rylee to show the Gryffindor seeker any sympathy. Not when the outcome of a match was at stake!

He shook his head in an attempt to focus on the quaffle, which had just left Mildred's hands for Hunter's. Malden sped along, managing to wedge himself between Hunter and Max, while Mason placed himself between Hunter and Mildred. Unfortunately, being cut off from his fellow chasers didn't seem to bother Hunter. He flattened himself over the shaft of his broomstick and tore across the sky, drawing ever nearer to the Slytherin goals.

Malden suddenly noticed something flying in his direction out of corner of his eye. He turned his head slightly to see a black bludger soaring straight for his face, courtesy of his own brother. Malden had no choice but to dive, since he had someone flying on either side of him. He felt the bludger pass over his head, but it didn't cause him any harm.

Mark caught up to it and aimed it at Hunter, but Edgar was perfectly in place to protect his teammate. Malden scowled again and shot his brother an angry look, but Madoc was too busy focusing on finding the other bludger to pay Malden any mind. For some reason, that annoyed Malden too.

Hunter pulled up to the Slytherin goal hoops and let the quaffle fly. It bounced off the rim of the left-most hoop and landed in Olive's arms, but before she could get a secure hold on it, Max lifted it from her arms and shot the quaffle off again. Gus spiked it away with his fist. It landed back in Max's arms, but the force of the impact caused him to drift backwards a bit. He ended up bumping into Malden, who was jostling for position in front of the hoops.

The distraction was enough for Olive to steal the ball back for Slytherin, but Madoc struck her in the arm with a bludger. She didn't drop the ball, but did loosen her grip on it, enough for Max to steal the ball back. He got off a quick shot before Gus could even react.

Malden scowled yet again. Now Gryffindor was leading by twenty to Slytherin's ten.

Slytherin Scores Again (Mason)
Author: Pyrrhus
Date:   01-10-14 18:06

Since Gryffindor made its second goal Slytherin has gotten close enough for goal attempts four times compared to Gryffindor's one. Each time Hunter Green has been able to keep the quaffle from passing through one of the three hoops. If the situation were reversed, there's no doubt in Mason's mind that Gus would have performed as well, if not better, than Hunter Green has. Of course, things could change in a blink with Gryffindor's chasers able to retain possession long enough to get close to Gus as many times as Slytherin has gotten to Hunter Green in the last while. As Malden just intercepted the quaffle on a pass between Hunter Rabnott and Mildred, there's a chance that time is now.

Malden zigs and zags, dodging a bludger from Edgar and avoiding a near steal by Max. His interception of the quaffle took place not all that far from the Gryffindor hoops so it hardly takes Malden any time to reach them. He pretends to throw, sending Hunter Green lunging. Malden then actually throws, the quaffle going as far from where he'd let Hunter think it was going as he can get it and still have a chance of getting the ball through a hoop. Hunter instantly corrects but it's not Hunter who foils the throw but a bludger from Madoc. From the way Malden scowls, it's clear to Mason that Malden is not happy with older brother Madoc.

Hit askew, the quaffle moves at an odd angle. Mason contorts his body trying to grab it but it's Mildred who takes possession. She promptly loses it when Olive pops the ball from underneath with her fist causing Mildred grasps to loosen. Olive tosses to Mason who throws the quaffle in the direction of one of the hoops. Hunter blocks, catching the ball and pulling it close to his chest. The Gryffindor keeper takes a second to assess who best to hand off to, going with Hunter Rabnott, mainly because the older boy is nearer than either Max or Mildred.

Hunter, Max, and Mildred moves the quaffle down the pitch with a series of rapid passes. Just past the halfway point Mason is able to get in between Max and Hunter, catching the quaffle in Hunter's place. Mason takes off back the other way, Max desperately trying to steal back the ball. So desperate he causes a foul. Coach Krum blows his whistle, Mason turning the quaffle over to him. Everyone moves into position around Hunter Green, the quaffle returned to Mason for the foul shot. Hunter Green has no trouble stopping the ball with the quaffle slapped away from the hoop where Mason had thrown it.

Mason nearly clunks heads with Mildred trying to get the quaffle. They both jerk away from the collision, which allows Malden to get a hand on the ball. As it's his teammate with it, Mason doesn't mind not having gotten it himself.

Malden once more throws the quaffle for a goal attempt. Once more his brother sends a bludger but this time Asher's able to stop it from reaching either Malden or the quaffle. His position allows Asher to send the bludger right at Hunter Green. At such close range and with the hard hit Asher seems to have given the bludger, Hunter Green knows contact with the black ball could be very bad. Instinctively ducking and dodging, he avoids getting hit as both the bludger and the quaffle pass him by, soaring through the hoop.

With the score tied once again, 20 to 20, the quaffle is turned over to Gryffindor. As Mildred passes it to Hunter Rabnott, Mason watches intently, looking for any opportunity to retake possession of the quaffle.

(Madoc) For the Sake of the Game
Author: Minerva McGonagall
Date:   01-11-14 06:29

Hunter R. sprinted away with the quaffle, only to get knocked back by a bludger. Fortunately, Max was practically by his side and easily accepted the red ball from his teammate. Hunter R. rubbed his aching shoulder and followed at a slightly slower pace. As Madoc passed him, he shot the Gryffindor chaser an apologetic glance, having been unable to reach him in time to protect him from the bludger.

Max managed to dodge Asher's bludger by rolling to the right. As he turned, he faked a handoff to Mildred. She took off like a shot, holding her arm in such a way to fool the opposing team into thinking she had the quaffle. Asher and Mark immediately turned their attentions to her, as did the Slytherin chasers. Even Madoc didn't notice the trick right away. He squeezed in between Mildred and Asher's bludger, knocking it into Malden, which earned him a rather nasty look.

Madoc wasn't particularly bothered. He and his brother had never disliked each other, but they were different enough that they weren't really friends. Malden nevertheless seemed to take every bludger Madoc aimed in his direction personally, but it was all for the sake of the game. They were on opposite teams, after all.

Mildred reached the goal hoops and pretended to throw the quaffle she wasn't even carrying. At the same time, Max was there, throwing for real. Unfortunately, Gus caught on quickly and managed to catch Max's throw. Around the time Gus handed the quaffle to Olive, the announcer yelled, "The seekers have seen the snitch!"

All four beaters swiveled their heads around to look for Cai and Rylee, who were indeed chasing after something they couldn't yet see. The beaters divided up to get to the two bludgers, Madoc just barely reaching one before Mark. He swung hard, feeling the impact vibrate all the way up his arm. With any luck, the bludger would hit Rylee, giving Cai the chance she needed to catch the snitch and win the game for Gryffindor.

Redemption on Golden Wings
Author: Rylee
Date:   01-11-14 11:04

After the dismal attempt at being a good seeker last year, Rylee had practiced and spent time getting advice from Aderyn Carter and from Raz who loved watching quidditch but didn't actually play himself.

Now, she was doing better, and she had all but seen the scowl on Malden's face when he'd zoomed past her earlier looking for a bludger because she'd said something to Cai who'd nearly been taken out by a bludger that had gone awry.

Either way, she was not going to let the mistakes of last year ruin the confidence she'd gained this year, she'd played well in the exhibition matches, and was already showing improvement in leaps and bounds in practices - so she was not going to be terribly upset if Cai ended up catching the snitch.

With the score tied twenty to twenty, and neither of the teams successful in making any other scoring attempts Rylee and Cai were both eager - for different reasons - to catch the snitch and end the game.

Cai had seen it first, and was racing after it. It didn't take long for Rylee to catch up, and soon the announcement came that the seekers were both racing after the snitch.

Bludgers were coming from both sides, in an attempt to benefit the seeker of respective teams - Rylee narrowly missed getting hit by the bludger smacked by Madoc, while Rylee dodged a bludger launched in her path by Asher.

It took but a few moments for the pair of them to be neck and neck again, racing after the glittering golden ball. It felt like the entire collective of people watching the match were holding their breath, waiting to see whose hand would close around the glimmering, fluttering, elusive ball first.

It would take a moment, a coughing fit to hit Cai, to give Rylee the advantage to inch forward and within the barest seconds she would close her fist around that glimmering, golden ball.

The announcer's voice filled the stadium.

"Rylee Marks has caught the snitch! Slytherin wins 170-20!"
